Wetplate/Tintype Portrait Sessions
A wetplate photograph is a direct witness to a moment in time. Light that is reflected off of the subject is recorded in pure silver on metal or glass directly in the camera. There is no translation through printing, scanning, etc. Each plate is created by hand and is unique, like an original painting or drawing. The plates are time captured and preserved for generations.
The wetplate process was discovered in 1851, and that process is the same one I use today. During your session, you’ll be able to observe the whole process from start to finish.
Located in Madison County, Virginia.
Please note: wetplate/tintype photos require a lot of light. For outdoor sessions, exposure times can be from 2 seconds to 10 seconds, meaning the subject needs to be still for that amount of time. For indoor sessions, strong flash/strobes are used (I prefer shooting outside in natural light, so only do indoors by special request). Either of these can be difficult for small children or animals, so please be aware of this when considering a session. I welcome both small children and animals, but want you to be aware that they may appear blurred in your plate(s), or the strong flash may startle them.
Gift certificates are available for all sessions. (Currently a good way to lock in that introductory pricing on the larger session, just use the gift certificate for yourself!)
Also, I love families in front of their houses, so Location Sessions are absolutely available, and I try not to charge a travel fee if you’re somewhat local to me. (Outdoor sessions are typically scheduled for the warmer months, but if you can stand the cold, I can too!)
25% for repeat customers, meaning if you’d like to do yearly sessions for an important landmark date (birthday, anniversary, etc.) contact me before purchasing a session and I’ll send you a discount code.
Contact me if you have questions about any of the above.
